Kids in Montgomery County, Maryland are getting a lesson on social media marketing.
They’ve created a blog to promote their Box Tops For Education program. They believe that with a combination of community support and attention to their blog, they will collect 1,000 Box Tops.
Some of the schools in Montgomery County have collected as few as 1,600 box tops.
The Box Top Kids want to show Montgomery County that they can use both on and offline marketing to gain attention for the box top program. The Box Top Kids have solicited the support of local and national businesses to both help collect box tops and spread the word. Once a company agrees to support the program, they are supplied with a collection box.
Businesses showing support:
Elk Mt. Trails are offering free trail rides for people who turn in 100+ Box Tops
Rockville Dental Arts will provide a free toothbrush and toothpaste for every 10 box tops they receive and a free cleaning and consultation for every 100 box tops received.
Prospect Hill is offering a $50.00 Gift Certificate toward dinner or lodging.
Real Estate Search and Sale, LLC will provide a $1.00 credit toward real estate services for each box top they receive, with a maximum credit of 95% of their commission.
If you would like to support the Box Top Kids, visit their site and send them an email: boxtopkid@gmail.com
Their goal is to get 100 companies supporting them. They are well on their way and you can help.
We support these children and are mentoring them, as they strive to achieve their goals.
Help kids learn that they are not too young to make an impact on their community, while they learn they can garner community support using web marketing source.

Business owners not having or maintaining ownership of their own websites is a common problem.
Do you know if you own your domain?
Go to Whois.net and see who owns your site. You may be surprised. We get several calls a year by business who need to obtain control of their domain.
Many registrars state that they comply with ICANN guidelines. This helps provide protection for the rightful owner.

- Don’t forget to check the expiration date of your domain registrations.

Sometimes long urls take up too much room in a micro blog, such as Twitter.
Other times I use them for personalization:
Here is the original link:
http://blip.fm/profile/MyMusicSelections/blip/21635425/The_Eagles-Desperado_live
This is a automatically generated url:
http://tinyurl.com/kkn28u
This is the link that I am going to place in a blog page that I am creating for my anniversary:
http://tinyurl.com/I-Love-You-Jack
This is a handy tool to use when the url is too long to add the link and the message.

Are you getting what you are paying for on Google Adwords?
I created several new campaigns for a client a couple weeks ago. I check my conversion rates constantly. I am finding that Google is charging the account when the click has a 100% bounce rate and ZERO time on the site.
Google Response: A visitor may land on a page, but unless they select to go off the landing page to a second page, it may record the time on the site as ZERO.
Hmmm. This does not make a lot of sense to me as it appears as though some visitors go to my client’s site and land on the page where I want them. The time on the site is recorded regardless of whether or not the visitor goes to another page.
I am going to set up a new webpage and not include it in the sitemap or robot. I will place analytics on the page; click on the page and check to see the results. I will test this numerous ways. I will go through various search engines and I will type the url directly into the browser. Each time I will record my actions.
I will post the results here in about a week.
————-In Google’s defense, I did contact their Adwords dept and received a response stating that if I think that I received the clicks in error, I can request an investigation. How many people are doing this? It seems as though this is where other search engines are finding their edge. They know that Google’s conversion rate is garbage. That people are still paying for garbage clicks.
I wrote a business plan for a search engine company and have determined at the time of writing the plan that Google knew that their conversions were garbage and were trying to make some changes, but it is clear that they have not gone far enough. Thanks to Yahoo Analytics, we can keep an eye on our Google conversions.
